Hi,
I've just found this site by searching for "Neural Networks using Mac OS X".  Previously I've used EasyNN using Windows but I am now using a different OS.  I notice that the forum has been very quiet for some time.  Is Simbrain ongoing?
I would like to use the system to work on number crunching Excel data.
How many inputs and outputs are feasible and can I use spreadsheets to input the data?
Regards, Ken Rock

Hi Ken,

Yes things have been quiet here, but certainly not behind the scenes.  Zach and I have been working as hard as we can, in what little time we have, to finally get 3.0 out.   You can get things from a spreadsheet into simbrain pretty easily: just  save as .csv and import, and then reverse the other way.   3.0 has a lot of performance enhancements.   Certainly it can handle a hundred inputs and outputs, and a fair bit more. The interface for backprop is much better, but honestly (assuming backprop is what you'd use) there is still quite a bit of work to do adding all the features and optimizations that industry standard backprop software has.  It's open source, so we do what we can when we have the time.

At any rate I'd say 3.0 will be out in the next month or so.   Until then if you are comfortable with svn, ant, etc. you could always run from source

Hi Jeff,
Many thanks for your prompt reply.
Since I posted the email to you, I have had a chance to investigate Simbrain further.  It looks very comprehensive and very impressive.
I am not familiar with Java and I realise I have a huge learning curve to climb.  I look forward to version 3.0 but in the meantime, I am working my way through the introductory procedures.
